Combating Violence Against Women in Sudan
This initiative aims to combat the prevalent issue of violence against women in Sudan through a comprehensive approach. The project focuses on three key pillars: strengthening the legal and policy framework, improving access to support services for survivors, and driving societal transformation through awareness and education.
Key Objectives:
- Enhance the legislative environment and law enforcement capacity to prevent and respond to gender-based violence.
- Establish a network of accessible and survivor-centric support services, including medical, psychosocial, and legal assistance.
- Raise community awareness on the forms and impacts of violence against women, and empower women to report incidents and claim their rights.
- Engage men and youth as partners in challenging social norms and promoting gender equality.
Target Beneficiaries:
– Women and girls at risk of or experiencing violence
– Relevant government agencies, civil society organizations, and community stakeholders
– The broader Sudanese society to catalyze a shift in attitudes and behaviors
This project aims to contribute to the creation of a safer and more equitable environment for women and girls in Sudan.
What we did?
– We provided comprehensive psychosocial support to women affected by gender-based violence in shelters, training 400 women and raising their awareness on issues of violence.
– For the past three years, we have celebrated the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women annually.
– We have delivered an empowering storytelling program for survivors of violence, designed to:
Draw inspiration from their experiences and resilience
Enable them to courageously share their stories after recovery
– We have equipped 700 women with transformative knowledge and insights on the dynamics of violence.
– We strategically targeted the program towards professionals in the legal sector and women’s rights advocates.
