Combating Violence Against Women in Sudan

Combating Violence Against Women in Sudan

This initiative aims to combat the prevalent issue of violence against women in Sudan through a comprehensive approach. The project focuses on three key pillars: strengthening the legal and policy framework, improving access to support services for survivors, and driving societal transformation through awareness and education.

Key Objectives:

  1. Enhance the legislative environment and law enforcement capacity to prevent and respond to gender-based violence.
  2. Establish a network of accessible and survivor-centric support services, including medical, psychosocial, and legal assistance.
  3. Raise community awareness on the forms and impacts of violence against women, and empower women to report incidents and claim their rights.
  4. Engage men and youth as partners in challenging social norms and promoting gender equality.

Target Beneficiaries:
– Women and girls at risk of or experiencing violence
– Relevant government agencies, civil society organizations, and community stakeholders
– The broader Sudanese society to catalyze a shift in attitudes and behaviors
This project aims to contribute to the creation of a safer and more equitable environment for women and girls in Sudan.

What we did?
– We provided comprehensive psychosocial support to women affected by gender-based violence in shelters, training 400 women and raising their awareness on issues of violence.
– For the past three years, we have celebrated the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women annually.
– We have delivered an empowering storytelling program for survivors of violence, designed to:
Draw inspiration from their experiences and resilience
Enable them to courageously share their stories after recovery
– We have equipped 700 women with transformative knowledge and insights on the dynamics of violence.
– We strategically targeted the program towards professionals in the legal sector and women’s rights advocates.
