At the same time, they have faced immense challenges, such as forced displacement and sexual assault.

The Resilience and Strength of Sudanese Women Amidst Conflict and War
Amid the turmoil and devastation, inspiring stories have emerged about the strength of Sudanese women and their extraordinary resilience and endurance. However, these women have faced unprecedented challenges in the midst of the ongoing war.
One such story is that of Nawal, a “displaced pharmacist” – a tale of hope and determination.
Nawal’s beginning was not easy. After fleeing the conflict areas in Khartoum, she found herself displaced in a shelter in Port Sudan, struggling with the dire economic conditions and trying to support her only child.
Despite these personal challenges, Nawal decided to transform herself from a recipient of aid to a provider. She began searching for the necessary medicines and medical supplies for the shelter’s patients, making them available by any means possible.
Nawal soon realized that the scarcity of essential medicines posed a significant challenge for the displaced, especially with the rising prices and lack of healthcare facilities in the shelters. She decided to establish a private pharmacy in her place of residence to ensure the availability of the required medicines.
She went even further, searching pharmacies for the rare medicines and personally delivering them to the shelter’s patients who were unable to obtain them on their own. In this way, Nawal became the frontline provider of healthcare for the displaced.
Nawal’s initiative did not go unnoticed by the local community. She became a true hero in the eyes of the displaced, who benefited from her efforts to bridge the healthcare gap they were facing.
Her influence extended beyond the shelter, as people commended her sacrifices and generosity despite her own difficult circumstances. Nawal became a source of inspiration for others to practice humanity and solidarity during times of crisis.
Nawal’s story clearly illustrates how determination and willpower can overcome challenging circumstances, and how an ordinary individual can become a hero in the eyes of their community when they demonstrate courage and dedication in serving others.
Displaced Mothers
Fatima Abker does not dream of buying a new dress, a doll, or a colorful necklace to adorn her child’s neck during Eid al-Fitr. Her biggest dream is to provide the basic necessities of water and food to sustain her six children.
In her interview with Aljazeera.net, Fatima (35 years old) expressed the harsh reality she is living, saying, “This is the truth we live here. We don’t have time to dream of trivial things like new dresses or decorating our children for Eid al-Fitr. All we need is food and water to survive in these difficult circumstances.”
She added, “Despite the harshness of life, we strive to bring joy to the children’s hearts with kind words, but I am unable to provide them with clothes and gifts.”
Fatima shares her dream with more than 500 women and men living in one of the displacement centers in the city of El-Fasher, the capital of the Darfur region in western Sudan. These individuals face extremely difficult and complex humanitarian conditions due to displacement caused by the ongoing war in the country and the poverty of the surrounding communities.
Since April 15th of last year, the Darfur region and other areas in Sudan have witnessed a violent armed conflict, resulting in the deaths and injuries of many people, as well as the flight of millions to some regions and neighboring countries. These individuals, including the displaced mothers, live in difficult conditions and face major challenges, yet they strive to stay alive and make efforts to bring happiness to their children.
